Thanks Giving Games
Thanks giving is a time steeped in history and family traditions. However, why not take the time to stir things up a bit by adding some Thanksgiving games to the day. You can play some games while waiting for friends and family to show up and before sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner. Perhaps you will start a few new traditions in your family.
In addition to the normal American Thanksgiving turkey dinner and football game, what about a game of popcorn relay? Just take several full bowls of popcorn and set them on one side of a room and empty bowls on the other. The teams must use a measuring cup, fill it with popcorn and race to the other side of the room and dump it into the empty bowl and then pass the cup to the next member. The first team to empty the original bowl wins.
It can be a lot of fun for the kids if you incorporate crafts into your Thanksgiving games.
A few days before Thanksgiving have the children color or find pictures in magazines of turkeys and glue them onto several index cards. On Thanksgiving Day, gather all of the kids around and have them leave the room while you hide the cards, and call them back in for the turkey hunt. The one who finds the most wins the game and can then hide them for the next round.
Other Thanksgiving activities could include a pumpkin race; this is best done outside or in a garage, but it can be done inside if necessary.
You will need two large pumpkins and two good heavy sticks; place the teams in two lines and place the pumpkins on their sides. The racers will then use the sticks to try to roll their pumpkins over the finish line. Young children may need to use their hands instead, but either way lots of fun will be had by all.
When considering Thanksgiving games, why not try a new version on an old game? Instead of pinning the tail on the donkey, you can pin the snood on the turkey. Or here is one the whole family can enjoy.
With everyone sitting in a circle, have the first person start by saying "For Thanksgiving dinner I like to eat turkey" or something similar and the next one has to repeat what they said and then add their own item. This continues around until one person can recite what is planned for the Thanksgiving feast perfectly, yet if someone gets it wrong, then they must sit out of the circle.
